Washington actually has a native scorpion, the northern scorpion, found across the dry shrub steppe of eastern Washington in places like the Hanford area, where it lives in sagebrush and sandy or rocky ground and is the northernmost scorpion species in North America, the only one found as far north as Canada. Despite that established native presence, it poses essentially no real safety concern: Washington State University Entomology describes it as not known to sting humans, and its range stays confined to the dry, treeless habitat east of the Cascades, meaning it's essentially unknown to the large majority of Washington residents living in the wetter, forested western part of the state. That makes Washington's scorpion story unusual among the states in this comparison, a real, established, native population rather than an occasional hitchhiker, but one confined to a specific eastern habitat and posing so little risk that most calls are genuinely just curious identification requests rather than anything resembling pest treatment.
